What Makes EMDR Intensives Special?

Many people are now realizing the importance of mental health care. It has always been vital, but due to the pandemic and world events, awareness around mental health is more abundant. More people are attending therapy now which is good because it shows that mental health is being taken more seriously. It's just like our physical health - you have to take care of it in order to remain healthy. On the other hand, that also means that many people out there are struggling mentally, which is hard to know, even for therapists.

Maybe you have tried traditional forms of talk therapy. But for whatever reason, it just doesn't seem like it works for you. This can make many people just not even want to attend therapy sessions at all, and I get it. You are paying good money to find relief and it just isn't coming. That doesn't mean that therapy isn't effective, it just means that what you are doing is not the right type of therapy.

Enter intensives. Intensives are being offered by many therapists to their clients whose traditional therapy just isn't getting results. It's in the name though, they are actually intense. And they aren't right for everyone.

One of these offerings is called EMDR Intensives.

What Makes EMDR Intensives So Special?

EMDR Therapy is a powerful approach to treating issues such as trauma/PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders.

EMDR Therapy takes less time than traditional talk therapy. However, it does take time and is not something that can be rushed. Depending on the needs and current situation of each client, it can take a few months to really get through.

They Are Quicker And Offer Flexibility Depending On Your Need

EMDR Intensives are solution-focused sessions that are time-limited and can provide results in a shorter period of time. There is no set time period that I offer these to clients, ranging anywhere from 3 to 8 hours. For instance, some clients prefer to have shorter intensive sessions over a period of several days. While others prefer to have one or two full days of intensives.

They Can Be Done Via Telehealth or In-Person

EMDR Intensives are just as effective when conducted via telehealth or in person. This is another reason why EMDR Intensives provide great flexibility for a client. While they are a time commitment, it gives people more access to the mental health care that they are desiring.

Intensives Equip You For Long-Term Success

Many people worry that after therapy is over, they will revert back to their previous state and all progress will be lost. That is not the case at all. My goal with EMDR intensives is to provide you with coping skills and self-soothing techniques that you can use at any time, in any place. When you are feeling anxious, sad, or feeling triggered by a certain memory or sound, you'll know what to do to calm your nervous system down.

You Can Talk About Your Painful Memories In Great Detail...Or Not

EMDR, in general, does not require a lot of talk therapy over what happened or what you are trying to heal from. However, in order to understand what you are going through, I do need to have a basic understanding of your situation.

Some clients prefer not to talk about it in great detail. And that is okay. For others, they do like to talk things out because it helps them to release the emotions and thoughts behind something. That is completely fine, as well. EMDR intensives can be great for those who do prefer to talk about what they are going through because there isn't as big of a time constraint like a typical one-hour session has.

EMDR Intensives are a fantastic option to help heal quickly so you can get your life back on track. If you want to learn more about them, please visit my EMDR Intensives page.
