EMDR Intensive

Are You Beginning To Worry That Your Wounds Will Never Heal?

Do you struggle with anxiety, worries, low self-esteem, a negative body image? Or do you have irrational and intrusive thoughts?

Is unresolved trauma from your past preventing you from being present and enjoying life?

Do you feel frustrated that nothing you try to make you feel better seems to work?

Are you tired of surviving instead of thriving?

You may experience a variety of emotional, social, and physical symptoms that affect your quality of life. Maybe you’re often worried, agitated, or distracted. Or perhaps you live with chronic pain, keeping you from being able to relax and maintain a healthy, balanced routine.

If obsessive and irrational worries are a constant intrusion in your life, it’s likely you default to anxious thinking patterns. Whether you have difficulty in social situations, struggle to perform at work, or regularly feel like you don’t measure up, you probably have a hard time being present and maintaining your relationships. As a result, you may have developed a negative self-image or other symptoms of depression, including a lack of energy and motivation.

Your worries, anxieties, and intrusive thoughts may stem from difficult, traumatic, unexpected, or even just unpleasant experiences. Perhaps you survived an accident, childhood abuse, or neglect. Maybe you were bullied or otherwise traumatized. And even though you have tried to forget or resolve the memory, you may feel like you have yet to experience true relief.

Did Traditional Therapy Or Other Interventions Not Work For You?

Suffering from anxiety, trauma, or other stressors, you’ve probably tried making changes in your routine and other interventions to improve your symptoms. Maybe you’ve considered therapy but worry that it’s expensive and too much of a time commitment. Or, if you’ve gone to counseling in the past, it’s possible you found the process slow, invasive, and ineffective.

Though you might have lost hope that meaningful, lasting treatment exists, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy offers healing where other therapies may fall short. And in an EMDR intensive, you have a unique opportunity to find fast relief and actually enjoy living your life.

Don’t Allow The Mental Health Stigma To Prevent You From Knowing Your Treatment Options

Mental health setbacks are common. We all encounter obstacles that keep us from experiencing life to its fullest, due to the intrusive thoughts and worries that are typically symptoms of trauma or unpleasant experiences. However, when such symptoms are left untreated, we risk making the problem worse.

Unfortunately, mental health continues to carry a stigma in today’s society. While therapy is becoming increasingly normalized, some people still struggle with the misconception that counseling invites judgment and signals weakness or failure. Not to mention, traditional talk therapy can be time-consuming and often still leaves the core issue unresolved.

EMDR is highly effective both on its own and when used with other forms of counseling. Because it is both gentle and body-based, EMDR can calm and repair your nervous system while healing core trauma.

Don’t let the stigma of mental health or therapy stand in your way. Consider EMDR intensives as a transformative service.

In fact, you don’t need a mental health condition to benefit from resetting your brain for a fresh start. EMDR intensives can also simply be used to make positive and healthy changes that affect your overall outlook and quality of life. Some examples are dieting, exercising, focusing on better self-care activities, and giving up on bad habits like drinking and smoking.

EMDR Intensives Pave The Way For Positive Growth And Change

Whether or not you’re aware of the issues at the center of your distress, EMDR can help you meaningfully address emotional pain. Using bilateral audio, visual, or kinesthetic stimulation, EMDR targets and rebuilds specific neural pathways in the brain to facilitate healing. Alexandra Lambeth, LPC

I specialize in EMDR intensives, which are time-limited, solution-oriented counseling sessions. Instead of being in therapy indefinitely, EMDR intensives allow you to work on multiple issues at once, while providing you with quick, transformative, and lasting results.

You can find meaningful relief in a shorter period of time by processing your unwanted memories associated with uncomfortable symptoms. Most clients are astonished by how effectively and instantaneously EMDR targets their anxieties, worries, low self-esteem, and other intrusive thoughts.

How Are EMDR Intensive Sessions Conducted?

As an EMDRIA-advanced trained therapist, I would be honored to guide you on your path to healing. Once we have completed an initial screening and determined that EMDR intensives are a good option for you, we will begin the intake process. During this time, more detailed assessments will help us determine your treatment goals. I use a client-centered, collaborative approach during treatment planning, which allows me to deliver you a highly individualized and specialized experience.

I offer EMDR intensives—including online sessions—starting at three hours up to eight hours a day. Some clients may prefer shorter intensive sessions over several days clustered together while other clients might prefer spending one or two full days with me. Short rest and lunch breaks are calculated into your session.

Sometimes clients wonder if EMDR intensives are better conducted in-person rather than through telehealth. Online EMDR sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions. I use a platform that is designed for my clients to access and experience the bilateral stimulation in a remote setting. Sitting in front of a screen for several hours during intensives could be compared to working on a computer for several hours. This might be strenuous for some people, but not for others. Clients who prefer to meet with me for in-person intensives are welcome to do so.

I aim to make EMDR intensive sessions a holistic, healing, self-care experience. In addition to EMDR, I may use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), which is another power therapy that incorporates bilateral stimulation. I may also use other therapeutic methods to enhance your coping and resilience throughout sessions. By the end of the intensive session(s), you will have an individualized toolbox of coping and calming techniques that you can apply when stressed, triggered, or anxious.

Maybe You’re Curious About EMDR Intensive Therapy, But Not Sure If It’s The Right For You…

I don’t want to talk about my trauma in detail.

Oftentimes, clients avoid therapy because they don’t want to talk about something that upsets or triggers them. EMDR is beneficial—especially for trauma survivors—because it allows you to find relief from disturbing experiences without talking for hours on end about what happened.

As your EMDR therapist, I will need to have a basic understanding of what you’re trying to process. You stay in control at all times, and you won’t be forced to talk about your trauma for hours. Rather, we will use EMDR intensives to neutralize the negative feelings and associations you have with your memories. However, some clients really like to share their experiences because they find it cathartic. Intensive sessions allow for this as well, as there isn’t a looming time constraint.

Intensive therapy sounds expensive.

EMDR intensive therapy sessions might initially seem like a more expensive counseling option, but they are likely to be more cost-effective in the grand scheme of things. Not only do the therapy sessions yield quick, positive results; they usually don’t require additional treatment after the initial EMDR intensive series.

When you are thinking about the cost of EMDR intensives, also keep in mind that you are directly investing in your mental health, and with that, you will improve your quality of life. There is no better return of investment than your inner peace and a relaxed state of mind!

EMDR requires highly specialized training and is not a skill set that every clinician has. As an EMDRIA-advanced trained therapist, I exclusively reserve my time for your EMDR intensive sessions, which allows me to provide you with a holistic and individualized healing experience.

How do I know that an EMDR intensive will be effective and/or safe?

A lot of research has been conducted about the safety and efficacy of EMDR, and many studies show that EMDR intensives are very safe and effective—especially when it comes to treating PTSD.

I will happily address any questions or concerns you may have about EMDR intensives. If you have concerns about getting over-stimulated or exhausted by the EMDR process, we will collaborate on shorter intensive sessions or other treatment alternatives. My initial screening process and further assessments during the intake will also help us figure out what will work best for you.
